Solution Solar Battery
Realizing the benefits of our solar energy storage has been a surprisingly smooth journey, and honestly, the biggest win for us has been the peak-hour savings. Before getting our battery, those dreaded afternoon electricity rates were a constant source of anxiety. We'd try to shift laundry or dishwasher cycles, but it was always a bit of a juggle. Now, with our system, it’s completely automatic.
We have a Growatt inverter, the growatt min 3600, and it’s paired with our solar panels and battery. During the day, the panels charge the battery while also powering our house. Then, as soon as those higher peak-hour rates kick in, the battery seamlessly takes over. We’ve watched our smart meter numbers drop significantly during those expensive times. It’s incredibly satisfying to see the savings rack up without me having to lift a finger.
The setup was surprisingly less daunting than I’d imagined, though that was mostly handled by the installer. But seeing how the charge and discharge cycles work daily, and how the system prioritizes using stored solar energy during peak times, has been the real revelation. I used to think of it as a complicated piece of tech, but in practice, it just works quietly in the background. It’s a true off-grid-like feeling, even though we're still grid-tied. The peace of mind from knowing we're reducing our reliance on expensive grid power is worth every penny.
