Running my home on solar power became different after I added a 10kWh lithium battery last autumn. Before that, my rooftop panels exported much electricity during the day, then I bought it back from the grid after dinner.
Installer paired the battery with a growatt hybrid inverter 3 phase, and setup was less disruptive than expected. They finished wiring in one day, while I spent an afternoon learning the app. I wanted to understand the charge schedule instead of trusting defaults.
Biggest improvement is peak-hour usage. The battery charges from solar between late morning and mid-afternoon, then powers the house from about 4:30 p.m. until bedtime. I run the dishwasher, induction cooktop, lights, and sometimes the heat pump without pulling much from the grid. On sunny days, our evening consumption is entirely covered by stored energy.
That cut my monthly bill by roughly 35 to 45 percent, depending on weather and dryer use. It is not a zero-bill result, but savings are consistent. My utility statement used to jump during expensive evening periods; now those peaks are much smaller.
I had one troubleshooting moment in December. The battery stopped discharging at 18 percent, even though the app showed capacity. I checked the inverter and found a backup reserve setting raised during a firmware update. Lowering it restored operation immediately. That scare taught me to check settings after updates, rather than assume failure.
I am still pleased with this solar battery. It gives me better control over when I buy power, and keeps circuits running during short outages. I would not oversize our system. The battery rarely reaches empty in summer, so another module only makes sense if our electricity use grows or we add a car.
The best feature is simple: solar energy collected at lunch still pays for my evening routine.
