Replacing my old lead-acid backup with a growatt 3600mtl LiFePO4 Battery was less dramatic than I expected, but the difference during peak hours has been noticeable.

I installed it in the garage beside my inverter and connected it to a rooftop solar array. The setup took most of an afternoon because I spent time labeling cables and checking the battery management system settings. Once enabled, the hybrid inverter automatically charged the lithium battery from midday solar and supplied the house after about 4:00 pm.

That change matters more than I expected. Before storage, our electric meter jumped whenever dinner cooking, washing machine, and air conditioning overlapped. Now I usually run those loads from stored energy during the utility peak period. Last month, my bill was about $42 lower than the same month last year, despite similar weather. That is not a perfect monthly saving because rates and solar production vary, but it is the first time the evening usage has felt almost invisible on the bill.

The battery is also quieter than I expected. It sits at roughly 40% overnight most days, then climbs once sunlight returns. I like being able to see charge level, power flow, and grid status in the monitoring app without guessing.

I did have one scare: the system stopped discharging during a storm. I found the battery breaker had tripped after a power outage. Resetting it restored normal operation, but I lowered the maximum discharge current afterward and added a surge protector.

After several months, I am happiest with the result: solar power is available when we actually use it, rather than only when the sun is shining. For my home, this battery has turned daytime generation into dependable evening savings.
