On summer evenings, I used to watch the electricity meter climb whenever the oven, air conditioner, and water heater ran together. Since installing my home solar battery, that habit has disappeared. I chose a fortune lifep04 system after comparing lithium iron phosphate batteries, mainly because I wanted to use more of my rooftop solar instead of sending it back to the grid for a small credit.
The biggest difference is during peak hours. My utility charges more from four to nine in the evening, exactly when our family is cooking, doing laundry, and charging phones. Now the battery stores solar power through the afternoon and automatically takes over at four. On a sunny day, the battery still has roughly 60–70% remaining after dinner. Before installation, those hours added about $3–$5 to my daily bill. Last month, my total bill was $68, compared with $142 during the month last year, despite using the air conditioner more often.
What I appreciate most is that it feels automatic rather than technical. The monitoring app shows solar production, battery state of charge, and household consumption without requiring attention. I did have one minor troubleshooting moment in the first week: the battery stopped discharging at night because its reserve setting was accidentally raised to 50%. I lowered the reserve to 20%, restarted the inverter, and everything worked normally again. That small lesson made me keep the backup reserve higher during storms.
For my household, the solar battery is not about becoming completely independent. It is about shifting energy use away from expensive peak periods and making rooftop solar more useful every day.
