Solution Solar Battery
X marks the spot on my electricity bill: the big drop started when I added a 180Ah solar battery to my rooftop system.
Before that, my panels worked well during the day, but I was still buying expensive grid power after sunset. I chose a lithium iron phosphate battery rather than lead-acid because I wanted usable capacity, low maintenance, and a longer cycle life. The salesperson showed me the exact phrase “exide battery 180ah price list 2022” while we compared older tubular batteries. It helped with budgeting, although I eventually bought a different brand with a five-year warranty.
Installation was less dramatic than I expected. The installer mounted the hybrid inverter beside my existing distribution board and connected the battery management system. He set the battery to charge from solar first and discharge between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m., when my utility’s peak tariff applies. I mainly run lights, fans, the television, Wi-Fi, and sometimes the refrigerator from stored solar energy. I avoid running the water heater or washing machine on battery power because those appliances drain it quickly.
My monthly bill fell from roughly $145 to between $85 and $95, depending on cloudy weather. The saving is not just from generating solar electricity; shifting evening usage away from peak hours makes the solar battery worthwhile. On sunny days, the battery is usually around 30 percent by bedtime, which gives me some comfort if the grid fails overnight.
I did have one small troubleshooting moment. For several days, the inverter showed a battery communication warning, and charging stopped at 80 percent. I switched the system off at the isolator, waited a few minutes, and restarted it, but the warning returned. The installer replaced a loose communication cable under warranty, and the problem disappeared.
After eight months, the battery storage system has been quiet, predictable, and more useful than I expected. I check its charge level most mornings, but otherwise it simply works in the background and makes my solar power noticeably cheaper.
