Evening electricity bills used to be the most annoying part of my household budget. Between the oven, water heater, and air conditioner, our usage jumped exactly when utility rates were highest. After installing a felicity solar battery with our rooftop panels, I finally had a practical way to use sunlight after sunset.
The installation itself was less dramatic than I expected. The installer mounted the lithium battery in our garage, connected it to the inverter, and set the system to charge from solar during the day. I asked for backup power, but my main goal was peak-hour bill savings. Seeing the monitoring app show the battery filling while I worked from home felt surprisingly satisfying. It was the first time energy independence felt tangible rather than like a slogan.
On a normal sunny day, the battery reaches full charge by midafternoon. Around 4 p.m., the inverter automatically switches from the panels to stored power. That timing matters here because our utility's expensive period starts at 4:30. We cook dinner, run the dishwasher, and sometimes turn on the heat-pump dryer without pulling much from the grid. My evening consumption is still visible on the app, but the little orange grid bars are dramatically shorter.
Before the battery, our monthly electric bill averaged about $210 in summer. Last summer it was closer to $135, despite running the air conditioner regularly. The exact savings vary with cloudy weather and utility credits, but avoiding peak rates is the clear win. I do not pretend the battery paid for itself overnight; the installed price was significant. Still, watching our consumption shift away from expensive hours has made the investment feel sensible.
One minor scare followed: the battery stayed at 30 percent because storm reserve mode was enabled. I changed the setting, and discharge resumed normally afterward.
