Using my home battery with the rooftop solar has changed the way I think about electricity bills. Before installation, I sent most of my afternoon solar production back to the grid for a small credit, then bought power during the expensive evening period. Now the battery charges after breakfast and runs the house from roughly 4 p.m. until bedtime.

My air conditioner, induction cooker, and pool pump used to push our peak-hour usage up noticeably. Since adding 13.5 kWh of solar energy storage, our monthly bill has fallen from around $180 to between $65 and $85, depending on the weather. It is not complete energy independence, but the battery storage system is doing the job I actually wanted: keeping my cheap daytime solar power for the hours when electricity costs more.

Each morning I can see the solar battery state of charge, household consumption, and whether the grid supplied anything overnight. I adjusted the reserve setting from 20% to 35% after a stormy week because I wanted a little backup power available.

One funny detail came up during setup. The installer’s monitoring gateway needed a small coin cell for its backup clock. I had a drawer full of odds and ends, including a pack labeled “button battery cr2032,” and that was the exact size it required. It was not part of the main battery installation, but replacing it solved a timestamp problem in the monitoring app.

The battery has not eliminated every bill or made cloudy days irrelevant. Still, after several months, I am really pleased with the practical performance. I use less grid electricity during peak hours, my solar self-consumption is much higher, and the home battery quietly does its work without needing daily attention. That convenience, more than the technical specifications, has made the investment worthwhile for me.
