Solution Solar Battery
Very few home upgrades have changed my evening routine as much as adding an eve energy battery to our rooftop solar setup. Before it, I sent nearly all daytime solar back to the grid for a small credit, then bought electricity back during the expensive evening hours. Our household includes two adults, a teenager, a heat pump, and an electric car, so that pattern was surprisingly costly.
The installation itself was less dramatic than I expected. The installer added the battery beside the inverter, ran new cabling, and configured the monitoring app in an afternoon. I did have to clear space in the garage and check that the wall could support the equipment. Once it was commissioned, I could see charge levels, solar production, household consumption, and grid import on my phone. That visibility was genuinely useful; I finally understood how much power the dishwasher and heat pump used.
The biggest difference appears between 4:30 and 9:00 p.m. The battery charges from excess solar through the day, then automatically supplies the house after dinner. In the first full month, our grid consumption fell by roughly 38%, and the bill dropped from $214 to $132. Results vary with weather and utility rates, but the peak-hour savings have been consistent. I especially notice it when the car charges overnight: that energy now comes mostly from solar stored at lunchtime rather than the grid.
I did have one troubleshooting moment. During a week of cloudy weather, the battery stopped discharging at 20%. I assumed something was broken, but the app showed the backup reserve setting had been raised after a firmware update. I lowered it to 10%, restarted the inverter, and normal operation returned. Support confirmed the setting was intentional for outage protection, although I wish the update had explained it.
