Solution Solar Battery
After installing my solar battery system last spring, I expected the biggest benefit to be backup power. What surprised me was how much easier it made managing our evening electricity use. My setup pairs an eapro solar inverter with a 10-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and twelve rooftop panels. I chose it mainly to avoid peak-hour rates, rather than chase energy independence.
Before the battery, our dishwasher, induction cooktop, and heat-pump water heater often ran after dinner, exactly when electricity was most expensive. Now the battery charges from midday solar production and carries those loads until bedtime. Looking at my utility statements, the change has been practical: our average monthly bill fell from roughly $180 to $105 during the summer. That is not a perfect saving every month, because cloudy weather and seasonal heating still matter, but the peak demand reduction is obvious.
I also like checking the monitoring app in the morning. It shows solar generation, battery state of charge, household consumption, and grid imports without making me guess. I usually set a 20-percent reserve so the battery is available during an outage, then let it discharge automatically during our expensive afternoon hours. On sunny days, the house reaches evening with plenty remaining charge; on rainy days, I simply buy more from the grid and accept a smaller saving.
The one minor troubleshooting moment happened in July. The battery stopped discharging even though the app showed 70-percent charge. I found the inverter had switched to backup mode after a brief voltage fluctuation. I power-cycled the system according to the manual, and it resumed normal operation within a few minutes. I have not seen the problem since, but that experience taught me to keep the installer’s number and manual accessible.
