Solution Solar Inverter
Xavier, the installer, finished fitting my home battery just before sunset, and that first evening made the whole investment feel real. The system is paired with an exide inverter, rooftop solar panels, and a lithium-ion solar battery mounted in the garage.
During the day, our panels charge the battery after covering the refrigerator, Wi-Fi, and normal household use. Before storage, we used to send much of that extra solar power back to the grid for a modest credit. At night, however, we bought electricity at the higher evening rate. Now the battery takes over around 5 p.m., when everyone is home, dinner is cooking, and the air conditioner starts running.
That change has been the biggest practical benefit. Our evening consumption is usually between 5 and 9 kWh, and the battery often handles most of it. On sunny days, our electricity bill has dropped by roughly 35–45% compared with the same months last year. I still have a grid connection, but I’m using far less power during peak tariff hours. Seeing the inverter display show “battery” instead of “grid” during dinner is surprisingly satisfying.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment during the first week. The battery stopped discharging at about 40% even though the house was using power. I checked the monitoring app and found that backup reserve mode had been enabled during setup. The installer talked me through lowering the reserve to 20%, and the battery immediately resumed normal operation. I now keep that reserve because short outages are common in summer.
The system has not eliminated my bill, and cloudy stretches still mean more grid electricity. But the solar battery has made our daily energy use more predictable, reduced peak-hour costs, and given me useful backup power without changing how my family lives.
