Every evening, after dinner, I used to check the utility app and wince at the red bars showing our peak-hour usage. Since installing a deye sun5k battery with our rooftop solar system, that habit has changed noticeably.
The setup was less dramatic than I expected. Our installer mounted the inverter and battery in the garage, connected the solar panels, and spent most of the afternoon configuring the energy management settings. The app took a couple of days to show reliable data, but once it settled in, I could finally see what was happening.
Our utility uses time-of-use pricing, with the expensive window running from 4 to 9 p.m. On sunny days, the panels charge the battery by early afternoon. When rates rise, the deye sun5k supplies the refrigerator, lights, Wi-Fi, and heat-pump water heater instead of pulling from the grid. One small scare happened during a storm. The battery showed “standby” in the monitoring app, and I assumed backup power had failed. I checked the breaker panel and found the inverter had briefly lost grid communication. After cycling the approved disconnect once, it reconnected within a minute. I later learned not to keep resetting it; the installer adjusted a firmware setting, and it has behaved normally since.
What I appreciate most is the quiet, automatic routine. I rarely think about the battery now. I just notice fewer expensive evening imports on the bill and more confidence when weather turns ugly.
