Solution Solar Inverter
Early last summer, I finally added a 10kWh lithium battery to my rooftop solar system, mostly because our evening electricity use was eating into the savings. My installation took about half a day. The electrician mounted the battery in the garage, connected it to the hybrid inverter, and showed me how to set a backup reserve. I kept 25% reserved for outages and allowed the battery to discharge during the utility’s peak period.
The first full week was the eye-opener. Before storage, I would export cheap midday solar for a small credit, then buy expensive power after dinner. Now the battery charges from excess panels around lunchtime and runs the refrigerator, Wi-Fi, lights, and heat-pump water heater from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. My evening grid consumption dropped from about 11kWh to 2kWh. That change cut my monthly bill by approximately $42, even though cloudy days still force some grid charging.
One night, I noticed the battery stopped discharging at 6% instead of reaching the reserve setting. I checked the monitoring app and saw a “communications lost” alert. Rather than panic, I power-cycled the gateway as the manual suggested. After five minutes, the system reconnected and resumed normally. It turned out my router had rebooted after an outage. That incident taught me that a reliable internet connection matters for monitoring, though the battery itself continued supplying backup power.
I have compared several brands and learned that the best power inverter is not necessarily the one with the flashiest app. For me, compatibility with my solar battery, settings, and responsive support matter more. The storage system has not eliminated my electric bill, but it has made our consumption much more predictable. I appreciate waking up to a battery after a sunny day, knowing tonight’s cooking and laundry will come from energy we produced ourselves.
