long life battery

Our solar battery setup has changed the way I think about electricity, especially during the expensive evening hours. I installed a 10 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery beside my inverter last spring, mainly to keep using my own rooftop solar after sunset instead of sending everything back to the grid.

On sunny days, the panels usually fill the battery by midafternoon. Once my household load rises around dinner time, the stored power runs lights, the refrigerator, Wi-Fi, and often the dishwasher. Before storage, those hours pushed me into the utility’s peak rate. Now my smart inverter switches to battery power automatically, and my monthly bill has dropped by roughly $35 to $50 during the warmer months.

That saving is more noticeable than I expected because I used to run the air conditioner right when rates were highest. I still buy some grid electricity on cloudy stretches, but the battery reduces those expensive imports instead of pretending I am fully energy independent. This is a realistic solar energy storage result for my home, not a dramatic zero-bill story.

The only hiccup came during a power outage in January. The battery backup started correctly, but my router restarted twice and briefly interrupted my phone connection. I discovered the essential-loads panel had been wired to a circuit I did not really need. My installer moved that circuit, and the next outage was uneventful.

I also appreciate being able to check battery state of charge from the app, although I trust the physical meter more than a colorful graph. After several months, there is no noticeable loss of capacity, which is encouraging for a long life battery. I would buy the system again, mainly for quieter evenings and fewer peak-rate surprises on utility bill.
