Solution Solar Battery DIY Parts
After two months of using my 10kWh solar battery, I finally stopped watching my electricity meter race upward every evening.
The setup was less intimidating than expected: my installer connected the lithium iron phosphate battery to the hybrid inverter, then programmed charging during daylight and discharging during peak hours.
On sunny days, rooftop solar fills the battery by midafternoon, even while the refrigerator, heat-pump water heater, and washing machine are running.
At 5 p.m., the battery takes over, so I use stored energy for cooking, lights, computers, and air conditioning instead of buying expensive grid power.
That change matters more than I expected. My utility bill fell from roughly $180 to $65 in the first full month, although weather and rates vary.
I still import electricity overnight in winter, but peak-hour savings are obvious on every bill.
The battery monitor shows state of charge in real time, and I enjoy checking it from the sofa.
One practical detail I would not overlook is the daly 8s smart bms 500a. I used it to monitor the battery cells and protect against overcharge, overheating, and excessive discharge.
The Bluetooth readings were helpful when I noticed one evening that cell voltage was drifting slightly.
Nothing failed, but I found a loose communication connection at the terminal block. After tightening it, the readings balanced again and the inverter returned to normal operation.
That small scare made me appreciate having battery management rather than treating the storage system like a black box.
I also set a reserve level of 20 percent, so there is backup power during brief outages.
It has already kept our Wi-Fi, freezer, and a few lights running through two short interruptions. That alone makes the investment worthwhile.
