After six months of using my 10-kWh LiFePO4 solar battery, I finally understand what people mean by shifting loads instead of simply chasing maximum solar production. My installer mounted the battery beside the inverter in our garage, and the setup took most of one afternoon for us.
The biggest difference appears between 4:00 and 9:00 p.m., when our utility charges jump. On sunny days, the panels fill the battery by early afternoon. The inverter then runs our refrigerator, heat-pump water heater, lights, and induction cooker from stored energy.
