I installed my solar battery storage system last spring, mainly to stop buying expensive evening electricity from the grid. I changed nothing about our routine, which is what makes the savings feel real. Before installation, our monthly bill averaged around $180. Since adding battery backup, it has generally landed between $72 and $95, depending on weather and heating use. I am not counting the fixed connection fee, but cutting peak consumption saves roughly $70 to $100 most months.

My favorite part is checking the monitoring app the next morning and seeing that the battery supplied 6 or 7 kWh overnight. That feels much more satisfying than simply exporting cheap midday solar power for a small credit.

I did have one minor troubleshooting scare in August. After a firmware update, the inverter stopped discharging at sunset. The app showed “standby” even though the battery was 84% full. I checked the breaker, confirmed the operating mode was set to self-consumption, and restarted the inverter. Nothing changed. Support asked me to power-cycle the battery isolator for five minutes, then reconnect it. That fixed the problem immediately, and the missing discharge schedule returned. I appreciated having a clear procedure instead of guessing.

Since then, the lithium iron phosphate battery has been boring in the best possible way. It runs quietly, keeps essential loads powered during outages, and saves money.
