Solution Solar Inverter
I installed a solar battery because my evening electricity use was getting expensive. Our rooftop solar already covered daytime appliances, but after sunset we were pulling power from the grid during the most expensive hours. I chose a 280Ah lithium battery setup, specifically one marketed as “big professional dc 280ah,” paired with a hybrid inverter and roughly 7kWh of usable storage.
The installation was less dramatic than I expected. The installer mounted the battery in my garage, ran short DC cables to the inverter, and configured a backup reserve of 20%. I spent the first evening watching the battery app like a child with a new toy. It charged from excess solar by about 2:30pm, then carried the house through dinner, lighting, and laundry without grid power.
The biggest difference appears on my utility bill. Before storage, my peak-hour usage averaged 8–10 kWh on weekdays. Now the battery discharges between 4pm and 9pm, so our evening grid consumption is usually under 2 kWh. My monthly bill dropped from around $185 to $112, though results vary with weather and heating demand. That is about $73 saved monthly, and the battery has already paid for several groceries.
I did have one small scare during a cloudy week. The inverter showed a battery communication warning, and the storage stopped discharging. I checked the app, restarted the inverter, and found a slightly loose communication plug after the installer had added a Wi-Fi monitoring module. After reseating it, the warning disappeared. Since then, the lithium iron phosphate battery has been boring in the best possible way: quiet, steady, and automatic.
I particularly appreciate having backup power during brief outages. It switches over quickly enough that my refrigerator and router stay running, although I do not try powering the whole house. For me, the practical win is using more of my own solar electricity and buying less expensive peak power.
