I installed a solar battery because my evening electricity use was getting expensive. I particularly appreciate having backup power during brief outages. It switches over quickly enough that my refrigerator and router stay running, although I do not try powering the whole house. For me, the practical win is using more of my own solar electricity and buying less expensive peak power.
