0—my solar battery has made the biggest difference after sunset, not during the sunny part of the day. I installed a 3000 24 lithium solar battery last spring, and the installer mounted the inverter and battery in my garage, then connected the unit to my existing solar panels and main electrical panel. I was most interested in peak-hour bill savings because our utility charges nearly twice as much between 4:00 and 9:00 p.m.
Before storage, the panels would stop helping as soon as the sun went down, and we would pull expensive grid power through dinner, laundry, and the evening air conditioning.
Now the battery usually fills by early afternoon and automatically discharges once the tariff changes. On an ordinary month, my electric bill has dropped from about $180 to $115, roughly $65 saved without changing our routine. During a hot week in July, it saved closer to $90, which made the solar battery feel worth the upfront cost much faster than I had calculated. I also like seeing the energy flow in the monitoring app: solar production charges the battery, then the battery carries the house instead of silently buying electricity from the grid.
My one minor troubleshooting moment came after a firmware update. The app showed the battery at 100%, but it would not discharge that evening. I checked the settings and found backup reserve had somehow changed from 20% to 100%. After restoring the reserve level and restarting the inverter, everything worked normally the next night. Glitch taught me not to assume a charging problem is a hardware failure; sometimes one software setting is quietly protecting the backup power you asked for.
I am still connected to the grid because winter clouds can outlast the battery, but the system has made our energy use predictable and has taken the sting out of peak rates without requiring constant attention.
