Evening electricity prices used to be the part of my solar setup I disliked most. My panels generated plenty during the day, but after dinner the house switched back to grid power just when our rates increased. The setup was less intimidating than I expected. I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. The monitoring app showed the battery at 100%, but it was not discharging after sunset. I eventually found that the inverter had been left in “backup reserve” mode during a software update. Rebooting the inverter and restoring the time-of-use schedule fixed it, and the installer confirmed the settings the next morning.

After six months, the LiFePO4 battery still reports nearly its original capacity, and I have not noticed unusual noise or heat.
