Every evening, I used to watch our electricity meter during the expensive 4–9pm window, wondering how quickly our solar savings disappeared. The monitoring app showed no fault, though; there simply was not enough sun to refill it. I changed the reserve temporarily to 10 percent and stopped running the clothes dryer at night.

That experience taught me not to treat stored energy as unlimited. On bright days, our solar battery charges by lunchtime and carries us through the evening.
