Solution Solar Inverter
After installing my home solar battery system last spring, I stopped thinking about electricity in two separate ways: what my panels produced, and what the grid charged me for at night.
The biggest practical change has been using stored solar power during our utility’s evening peak window.
I have a 5kWh lithium battery mounted in the garage, with a hybrid inverter and roughly 4kW of rooftop panels. I originally searched for a “batterie lithium 12v 100ah” because I was comparing smaller backup batteries, but my installer recommended a higher-voltage home-storage unit instead. It cost more upfront, yet it handles our daily loads much more smoothly than the portable setup I had before.
By late afternoon, the battery is usually between 80% and 100%, depending on clouds and laundry. When rates rise at 5 p.m., it automatically supplies the refrigerator, Wi-Fi router, lights, and sometimes the dishwasher. Our evening grid consumption fell noticeably; over the first full month, my bill was about $38 less than the same month last year, despite similar weather and usage. That is not a dramatic windfall, but it makes the battery feel worthwhile every month.
I did have one minor scare during the second week. The monitoring app showed the battery at 4% just before sunrise, and the inverter briefly disconnected. I found a tripped backup breaker, reset it, and everything came back online within a minute. The manual explained that a deep discharge can trigger protection, so I changed the reserve setting from 10% to 20%. Since then, it has never repeated the warning.
For me, the best part is the routine savings. I can run a fan or make coffee after sunset using energy my roof collected earlier. Solar panels plus energy storage make the power bill easier to plan around.
