Solution LiFePO4 Battery Cell
Nearly six months ago, I installed an inverter growatt 10kw compatible LiFePO4 Battery in my garage, alongside 6.6kW of rooftop solar. I chose storage mainly to stop buying expensive evening electricity. The installation took most of a Saturday. My electrician mounted the battery cabinet beside the inverter, ran new cables through conduit, and added a backup breaker for selected circuits.
Before storage, my house regularly pulled power from the grid between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m., especially when cooking dinner and running the heat pump. Now the solar battery usually reaches full charge by early afternoon. I set it to reserve 25% for outages and discharge the rest during peak hours. On sunny weekdays, my evening grid use has fallen from roughly 8-10kWh to 1-2kWh. That change saves me about $3-$5 per day, depending on rates. Across a typical month, my bill is around $70-$100 lower than it was last summer.
The most useful feature has been the quiet automatic switching during a short outage. One storm evening, the grid dropped out while my daughter was doing homework. The lights blinked once, then the refrigerator, router, and kitchen lights stayed on. I only noticed the outage because the app sent a notification. There was no dramatic interruption, which is exactly what I wanted from a home battery backup.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment in winter. After several cloudy days, the battery stopped discharging at night even though the app showed a healthy state of charge. My installer walked me through the menu, and changing it back restored normal operation. Since then, I check the battery temperature and state of charge weekly, but I rarely think about it. For my household, solar storage is less about technology and more about predictable power costs and peace of mind.
