We now run the dishwasher after sunset without worrying that every cycle is using expensive peak electricity.

My one minor troubleshooting moment came in January, when the battery stopped discharging at 30%. The app showed “backup reserve,” and I had never set it that high. I restarted the gateway and discovered a software update had changed the reserve setting. After lowering it to 20%, the system behaved normally. That taught me to check settings after updates.

For me, the real value of home energy storage is not total independence. It means lower bills, less dependence on peak rates, and having backup power during outages. I would add another battery eventually, but for now this solar battery gives us a balance between saving money and using our solar power more intelligently.
