Running my solar battery system has changed how I think about electricity bills. Before installing it, I used most of my solar power during the day and sent the rest back to the grid for a fairly small credit. Now, the battery stores that excess energy and runs my house through the expensive evening hours.

My setup includes a hybrid inverter, rooftop solar panels, and a lithium battery bank. I specifically chose an inverter with “growatt 2 mppt” because my roof has two panel sections facing slightly different directions. That arrangement helps capture production from both areas without needing separate inverters. On sunny days, the battery is usually full by mid-afternoon. Around 4 p.m., it starts supplying the refrigerator, lights, Wi-Fi, and sometimes the washing machine.

The biggest practical difference shows up between 5 and 9 p.m. I used to see the meter climb quickly while cooking dinner and running the heat pump. Now the battery covers most of that period. My monthly electricity bill has dropped by roughly 35 to 45 percent, although the exact savings depend on cloudy weather and how much heating we use. I still buy power overnight once the battery reaches its reserve level, but peak-hour consumption is dramatically lower.

I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. The battery stopped discharging even though the monitoring app showed plenty of stored energy. After checking the settings, I discovered the backup reserve had accidentally been raised to 80 percent during a software update. Lowering it to 20 percent fixed the issue immediately. Since then, I check the app occasionally rather than obsessing over it.

The system is not completely maintenance-free, but it has been quiet, predictable, and easy to live with. For me, the real benefit is using more of my own solar energy instead of watching it flow back to the grid.
