The battery charges from solar around noon and starts discharging when my inverter sees the house load rise. I set it to cover the five-to-ten p.m. window. My dishwasher, induction cooktop, lights, and heat pump now run mostly on stored energy. On cloudy days, the battery usually carries us through dinner and leaves around 20% reserve.

My utility bill dropped by roughly 35%, from about $180 to $115 per month on average. The exact savings vary, but peak-hour consumption has nearly disappeared. I also like seeing less wasted solar production, even if the payback is still years away.

The only hiccup came during a firmware update. One evening the app showed the battery at 62%, while the inverter was pulling power from the grid. I checked the breaker, restarted the communications gateway, and waited ten minutes. Nothing changed.

A support technician noticed the update had switched the operating mode from self-consumption to backup only. We changed one setting, and the battery resumed discharging that night. It was a small reminder that a smart battery still needs occasional attention; the hardware was fine, but the app did not make the problem obvious.

I had considered a diesel electric conversion for outages, but adding battery storage has been the quieter, cleaner solution for my daily routine. I still keep grid power connected. The biggest win is simple: I cook dinner with yesterday’s sunshine instead of paying today’s highest rate after work.
