0nce I installed an 800V Battery DIY Kit beside my inverter last spring, I expected a complicated weekend project, but the setup was straightforward. My system is a modest rooftop solar array, and before storage I still pulled power from the grid every evening. The battery changed that routine. It charges from excess solar during the afternoon, and my hybrid inverter switches the house to stored energy around 5:30 p.m. By breakfast, I have enough capacity left to cover the refrigerator, lights, Wi-Fi, and heating circulation pump.
The biggest difference shows up on my electricity bill during peak hours. My utility charges more from 4 to 9 p.m., so avoiding those hours has reduced my bill by $45 to $65, depending on cloudy weather and how much laundry we run. Over summer, my solar self-consumption rose from about 42% to 78%. That number matters more to me than advertised payback estimates because I can see the saving every month.
One small troubleshooting moment came after a firmware update. The battery stopped discharging at the scheduled time, even though its app showed a healthy state of charge. I checked the breaker, communication cable, and time-of-use schedule. Everything looked normal. A restart fixed it, and support confirmed the update had reset my discharge window. It took ten minutes, but I keep screenshots of settings before accepting updates.
I have not expanded the battery yet. Its usable capacity is enough for my evening essentials, but not air conditioning on a hot night. For me, that is a sensible limitation rather than a failure. I would need another battery module, better solar production, and possibly a service upgrade before spending more money. The current storage setup has made solar power much more useful, especially when grid rates climb.
