8-month-old solar battery has changed how I use electricity at home. Before installing it, my rooftop panels often sent excess power back to the grid during the day, while I bought expensive electricity after sunset. The biggest difference appeared on my first summer bill: I stopped pulling nearly as much power from the grid during peak hours.
My setup is fairly modest—5.2 kW of solar panels and a 10 kWh LiFePO4 battery mounted in the garage. I chose the 38120 lifepo4 battery pack after comparing usable capacity, cycle life, and inverter compatibility, rather than chasing the cheapest option.
On sunny days, the panels charge the battery by early afternoon. My inverter then holds that stored energy until around 4 p.m., when the utility’s peak rate starts. At that point, the battery runs my refrigerator, heat-pump water heater, lights, and office equipment. I can actually see the discharge on the monitoring app, which is oddly satisfying.
In practical terms, my evening grid usage fell from roughly 8 kWh to 1 or 2 kWh on clear days. That usually saves me about $1.50 to $2.50 per day, depending on the tariff. It is not a dramatic overnight miracle, because cloudy weather still means I sometimes buy power, but my monthly bill has dropped by around 30 percent overall.
My hiccup happened during a firmware update. The battery stopped discharging for an evening, though the app showed charge. I power-cycled the inverter, checked the breaker, and waited minutes before restarting it. Support confirmed the update had not completed and pushed it. Since then, the system has been reliable.
I keep the battery reserve at 20 percent for outages, although I have used that backup once. For me, the best value is quiet, predictable peak-hour savings, not total energy independence.
