Solution Solar Inverter
0ver the past six months, my 10kw solar system with battery storage has changed how I use electricity at home. The biggest difference is what happens after sunset. Before adding the battery, my solar panels exported a lot of afternoon power, then I bought electricity back from the grid during the expensive evening period. Now the battery stores that daytime solar energy and runs most of my house through dinner, laundry, and the first few hours of the night.
I usually check the monitoring app when I get home. On a sunny day, the battery is often close to full by mid-afternoon. Around 5 p.m., instead of pulling power from the grid, I see the battery discharging while the oven, lights, television, and heat-pump water heater are running. That peak-hour saving has been more noticeable than I expected. My electricity bills have dropped by roughly 60 to 70 percent compared with the same months last year, although weather and our changing usage obviously affect the result.
The setup itself was fairly straightforward, but I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the battery stopped discharging overnight and showed a standby warning. I restarted the inverter through the app, waited a few minutes, and checked the cables and isolator switch. It came back online without a technician visit. Since then, I have learned that a low battery reserve setting can also make it look as though the system is not working.
I keep the backup reserve at about 20 percent, so there is still some stored energy if the grid goes down. We have not had a long outage yet, but the battery backup has already handled a couple of brief interruptions without the usual clock resets and router restart.
For me, the main benefit of solar battery storage is not simply producing clean energy. It is using more of my own solar power when electricity prices are highest, with less dependence on the grid every evening.
