8pm used to be the moment my electricity meter started making me nervous. Since adding a 10kWh LiFePO4 home battery to my rooftop solar system, that feeling has mostly disappeared. My installer connected the battery to a hybrid inverter, and I set it to charge from solar during the day, then discharge during the evening peak.
The difference is easiest to see after dinner. Our oven, induction hob, lights, television, and heat-pump water heater used to run when grid electricity was most expensive. Now the battery usually handles those loads until around midnight. On a sunny day, it reaches full charge by early afternoon, and I often finish the evening with 20–30% remaining. My daily grid usage has dropped from roughly 18 kWh to 7 or 8 kWh, saving about $3–$5 per day on my tariff. It is not a dramatic overnight transformation, but over a month the reduction is genuinely noticeable.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment during the first week. The battery stopped discharging at 30%, even though the house was drawing power. I initially thought the storage system was faulty, but the inverter app showed that the backup reserve had accidentally been set to 30%. Lowering the reserve to 15% fixed it immediately. I kept the higher setting during storm season because having emergency capacity is reassuring.

So far, the LiFePO4 battery has been quiet, cool, and predictable.
