Running my solar battery system has changed how I think about electricity, especially during the evening peak period. Before installing it, I watched my smart meter climb every time we cooked dinner, ran the dishwasher, or switched on the air conditioner. Now, the battery usually carries the house from late afternoon until bedtime.
My setup uses a 5kWh lithium solar battery paired with a growatt inverter 3kva. The installation itself was fairly straightforward, although the electrician spent extra time checking the cable route from the garage to the distribution board. I appreciated that because the battery is heavy, and I wanted everything mounted securely rather than rushed.
The biggest practical benefit is avoiding expensive grid electricity after sunset. On a typical sunny day, my solar panels charge the battery by mid-afternoon. Once the panels stop producing much power, the inverter automatically switches the home over to stored energy. I can see the change in the monitoring app, and it is satisfying to watch grid consumption stay close to zero while we make dinner.
My evening usage is modest, so the battery often still has around 25–35% remaining before the next morning. That reserve is useful during short outages, although I do not treat it as unlimited backup power. I keep the refrigerator, internet router, lights, and a few outlets on the backup circuit, but not the electric oven or water heater.
There was one minor troubleshooting moment during the first month. The battery stopped discharging because its reserve setting had accidentally been raised to 50%. I initially thought something was faulty, but the app made the setting obvious. Lowering the reserve restored normal operation immediately.
After several months, the system feels less like complicated technology and more like a quiet household appliance. My bills have dropped most noticeably in summer, and I am using far less power during peak hours. The best part is the daily routine: generate solar power, store the excess, and use my own energy when electricity costs the most.
