Before adding solar battery storage, my panels exported most of their afternoon energy while I bought electricity back from the grid between 5 and 9 p.m. Those were the expensive hours, especially when we cooked dinner, ran the dishwasher, and used the heat pump.

Now the battery charges during sunny afternoons and supplies the house after sunset. On a typical clear day, it covers roughly 3 to 5 kWh overnight. My utility bill has dropped by about $35 to $50 per month, depending on weather and heating use. That is more useful to me than impressive app graphs, because I can actually see the difference on the bill. I still stay connected to the grid, but the solar inverter automatically switches to grid power when the battery reaches my 20% reserve.

The one minor problem happened during the first week. The battery-monitoring app showed the state of charge stuck at 100% for several hours, even though the charging current had already fallen close to zero. I checked the wiring, restarted the Bluetooth monitor, and discovered that its capacity setting was still based on the factory default. After entering the actual battery capacity and letting it complete one normal discharge cycle, the readings became sensible.

I appreciate that the 24v lifepo4 setup does not need much attention. I check the terminals occasionally, keep the battery in a dry utility area, and glance at temperature and voltage in the app. It has not eliminated my electric bill, but it has made my solar system far more practical. The best part is using my own daytime solar power at night instead of selling it cheaply and buying it back at peak rates.
