0nly after installing my 200 amp hour lifepo4 battery did I stop checking the app every hour. I was mainly chasing lower evening electricity bills, and this setup has made the biggest difference between 5-and-9pm and bedtime.
At home, the battery charges from my rooftop solar through the afternoon, then runs the refrigerator, lights, Wi-Fi, and television after sunset. Before storage, I would send unused solar back to the grid during the day and buy power when rates were highest.
Now I usually reach dinner with the battery around 70%, and it carries the house until midnight without me thinking about it. On a sunny day, the solar battery is often back above 90% by breakfast, which feels like starting each morning with a full tank.
The real saving shows up in peak-hour usage. My first full month with battery backup dropped the utility bill by about 38% compared with the same month last year, even though our household habits barely changed. That is not a dramatic off-grid lifestyle; it is simply avoiding the expensive window.
I also appreciate the quiet operation. The only annoyance came during a cloudy three-day stretch in winter. I noticed the state-of-charge reading sitting at 18% before sunrise, so I checked the battery settings instead of panicking. The inverter had switched to grid support exactly as configured, but my backup reserve was set higher than I remembered. I lowered that reserve from 30% to 20%, and the next sunny afternoon restored the usual rhythm.
That small lesson mattered: battery capacity is not the same as usable capacity, and the app numbers make more sense after watching them for a few weeks.
I have not expanded the system yet. For now, my lithium battery covers essentials and keeps charges low.
