8 months ago I installed a 10kWh LiFePO4 battery beside my rooftop solar inverter, and my evening electricity routine has become noticeably calmer and less expensive overall for our family.
Before the battery, our panels exported most midday power, while we bought electricity back from the grid after dinner, exactly when peak-hour rates were highest in our utility's schedule here.
Now solar generation fills the battery through the afternoon, and it runs our refrigerator, Wi-Fi router, lights, and sometimes the washing machine after sunset without grid power on ordinary nights here too.
The clearest result appeared on our first comparable bill: it fell from about $168 to $103 despite similar weather and household usage, which surprised me personally more than I expected.
That $65 monthly saving is not dramatic, but it is consistent, and I especially notice the difference during hot evenings when air-conditioning normally drives our demand upward very noticeably now.
Installation was easier than I feared. The installer mounted the battery in my garage, connected it to the hybrid inverter, and configured time-of-use scheduling through the phone app without fuss.
I set a 20% reserve, so the system keeps backup capacity for outages. The app displays battery state of charge, solar production, grid import, and household load in one place.
There was one minor troubleshooting moment during a cloudy week. The battery stopped discharging at 31% and showed a communication warning, which initially worried me more than it should have.
I power-cycled the inverter, waited five minutes, and restarted everything. It recovered immediately, but I still called the installer; they updated firmware remotely, and operation has been stable since then.
Someone mentioned an 18650 battery 3500mah pack for small DIY storage projects, but I prefer this certified home battery because safety, monitoring, and warranty matter more to me at home.
