Solution Solar Battery DIY Parts
0n most weekdays, my solar battery sits quietly in the garage, doing its least glamorous job: shifting electricity around so I buy less from the grid each month. I installed it beside a 10kva inverter last spring, mainly because our evening electricity rates had become painful.
The setup was less dramatic than I expected. The installer mounted the battery, connected the hybrid inverter to my existing solar panels, and set a twenty-percent reserve. I watched the app for a week, checking charge levels while my family carried on normally. By late afternoon, the battery was usually full enough to cover cooking, lights, Wi-Fi, and the water heater after sunset. It felt surprisingly automatic.
The biggest difference appears during peak hours. My utility charges more between 4pm and 9pm, when we cook, run the dishwasher, and watch television. Instead of pulling everything from the grid, the battery supplies most of our evening load. On an ordinary day, that is roughly 8 to 11 kWh, and my daily bill has dropped by about 3 to 5 dollars. In sunny months, solar generation fills the battery before noon, so we use less grid electricity overall.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. One morning, the app showed the battery at zero percent even though the sky was bright. The inverter had switched to backup reserve after a brief outage and failed to resume charging. Restarting it did nothing, but resetting the communication dongle fixed the problem within minutes. Support later said a firmware update was needed.
Since then, performance has been steady. The battery has not eliminated my electricity bill, but it has made costs predictable. I also appreciate backup power for the refrigerator, modem, and a few lights during outages. For my home, this solar battery setup feels practical, quiet, and worth the investment for our busy household.
