Solution Solar Battery DIY Parts
0vernight, my solar battery has changed the way I use electricity more than I expected. I installed a 100ah lithium battery beside my inverter last spring, mainly to keep essential lights, the refrigerator, Wi-Fi, and a few outlets running after sunset. I was not trying to make the house completely off-grid; I wanted to use more of my own solar power and buy less electricity during expensive evening hours.
The biggest difference shows up around dinner time. Before the battery, my solar panels produced plenty during the afternoon, but I sent much of that energy back to the grid for a modest credit. After adding the battery storage system, it charges when the panels are producing more than the house needs. Around 5 p.m., the inverter switches over and supplies power from the battery. On sunny days, I often get through the entire peak period without drawing much from the grid.
My monthly bill has dropped by roughly 25 to 35 percent compared with the same months last year. The exact savings depend on cloudy weather and how much cooking or laundry we do, but the improvement is easy to notice. I also like seeing the battery monitor show solar input, household consumption, and remaining capacity in real time. It has made me more aware of when I run high-power appliances.
I did have one minor issue during the first week. The battery stopped discharging overnight because the inverter’s minimum state-of-charge setting was too high. I lowered that setting slightly after checking the manual, and the system has worked normally since. I still keep a reserve for outages rather than draining the battery completely.
So far, this lithium battery has been quiet, low-maintenance, and practical. It has not eliminated my electric bill, but it has made my solar investment feel much more useful every day.
