Originally, I bought a home battery because my solar panels were exporting too much electricity during the afternoon and I was still paying expensive rates after sunset. The biggest difference has been peak-hour savings. I appreciate that the battery operates quietly in the garage and does not need daily attention. I check the solar monitoring app every few days, mostly to see how much energy came from the panels versus the grid. During cloudy weeks, savings are smaller, but the battery still shifts whatever solar energy is available into the evening. For me, the practical value is not just backup power; it is using my own electricity when grid prices are highest.
