Solution Solar Battery
Using my xuba lifepo4 battery with our rooftop solar system has changed how I think about electricity bills. Before installing it, I sent most of our daytime solar back to the grid, then bought power back during expensive evening hours. The battery now charges after breakfast and carries that energy into dinner, laundry, and the late evening.
The biggest difference is peak-hour savings. I programmed the battery to discharge from 4:30 p.m. until 9 p.m., when our utility rate is highest. Instead of watching the energy monitor nervously, I usually see the house running on stored solar power while the grid meter barely moves. On sunny days, our evening grid use dropped by roughly 7 to 10 kilowatt-hours. That has taken about $2 to $3 off each high-rate day, or around $70 a month during summer. It is not a dramatic overnight escape from utility bills, but the steady reduction is very noticeable.
Setup was easier than I expected. I spent the first week checking state of charge more often than necessary. One morning, the app showed the battery at 0% even though the forecast promised sun. I found the backup reserve had accidentally been set to 20% and a firmware update had paused charging. After restarting the inverter and lowering the reserve to 10%, the battery resumed normally. I appreciated that this was a settings issue, not a hardware failure.
Now I personally leave the reserve at 15% for outages. During two short blackouts, the lights stayed on and the refrigerator never stopped. It has also made me more deliberate about using appliances after sunset. The system feels practical rather than flashy: it quietly uses clean energy I already generate, reduces peak demand, and gives our home a little resilience. For me, that combination matters more than chasing perfect energy independence.
