Every evening, I used to watch my electricity meter climb when the utility switched to peak rates. Since installing a weize lithium battery in our garage, I have changed that routine completely.
Our solar panels charge the battery through the afternoon, and the inverter carries our house through dinner, laundry, and the first few hours of darkness. The biggest practical difference is not some impressive app graph; it is seeing the air conditioner run after sunset without immediately feeling guilty about the bill.
Before storage, my summer bills averaged around $180. During the last two billing cycles, with similar hot weather, I paid $117 and $121. That is roughly $60 saved per month for us, although I know rates and sunshine will vary. The battery usually reaches full charge by mid-afternoon, then discharges until about 1:30 a.m. I set it to reserve 25% so we still have backup during a short outage.
I did have one mildly annoying troubleshooting moment. One morning, the monitoring app showed the battery at 0% even though the panels were producing. The inverter display showed a communication warning. I shut down the inverter, waited five minutes, and restarted it in the order listed in the manual. The state-of-charge reading returned after about ten minutes, and the system charged normally.
Since then, I have kept the battery firmware updated and check the cable connections every few months. That small scare made me appreciate having a physical inverter screen instead of relying only on Wi-Fi.
I am not completely energy independent, especially through several cloudy winter days. Still, this solar energy storage setup has made our household usage calmer and more predictable.
