Solution Solar Battery
Using my sun 5k sg01lp1 solar battery for eight months has changed the way I think about our evening electricity use.
Before the battery, our solar panels sent surplus power to the grid during the afternoon, then we bought electricity back at expensive evening rates. Now, the system charges through the day and switches to battery power around 4:30 p.m., usually carrying us through dinner, lights, laundry, and television. That simple change has made the biggest difference to our bill.
On sunny months, our utility bill fell from roughly $180 to $95. During cloudy weeks, savings are smaller, but the battery still handles the costly peak period, which is what I wanted most. Based on the last six bills, I estimate it saves me about $70-$85 monthly, depending on weather and how often we run the dryer.
Installation was less dramatic than I expected. An installer mounted the inverter and battery in our garage, checked the backup circuits, and programmed a 20% reserve. I kept that reserve because outages are infrequent, but having the refrigerator and Wi-Fi router stay on during a storm is reassuring.
One minor annoyance appeared in the first week. The monitoring app showed the battery at 100%, yet it stopped discharging after only a few minutes. After checking the settings, I found a backup schedule accidentally set for weekdays only. I changed it to daily mode, restarted the inverter, and everything worked normally.
That little hiccup taught me more than the sales brochure: solar storage still needs occasional attention, especially after firmware updates.
Overall, I am happiest with the quiet, automatic operation. I do not think about the battery most days; I simply notice that peak-hour grid consumption is lower.
Would I buy it again? Yes, provided the installer explains the time-of-use settings clearly and leaves a reserve.
