Turning on my new solar battery after sunset has changed the way I think about electricity at home. Before installing the 10 kWh battery storage unit, my rooftop solar system exported most of its afternoon production while I bought power back during expensive evening hours. Now the inverter charges the battery around lunchtime, and our dishwasher, lights, refrigerator, and heat pump run mostly from stored energy later.

The difference showed up quickly on our bill. We used to average about $185 a month in summer. Our first full month with the battery was $112, even though we had several very hot days and ran the air conditioner in the evening. I am not claiming the battery eliminated our bill; fixed charges and cloudy weather still show up. But avoiding peak-hour electricity has made the biggest practical difference. My utility charges nearly twice as much between 4 and 9 p.m., so I set the system to reserve 25% for outages and discharge the rest during that window. Watching the monitoring app show the battery carrying the house at 6 p.m. is oddly satisfying.

The setup was easier than I expected. The installer mounted the battery beside the existing inverter, connected the backup circuits, and finished in one morning. I chose a stackable design because I wanted room to expand later without replacing the whole solar energy storage system. For now, one module covers our normal evening load, but I am considering adding another module before next summer.

My only annoyance came in the first week. The app showed 3% one morning, although our overnight use was light. I restarted the gateway, and support explained a firmware update had paused the reading. Since then, the battery has been quiet and predictable. I check the app, but mostly forget it is there now.
