Putting my solar battery to work has changed the way I think about electricity, especially during the evening peak. I installed an sph6000 growatt compatible LiFePO4 Battery beside my inverter last autumn, mainly because my daytime solar panels were exporting too much power while we were buying electricity back at dinner time.
The physical setup was less intimidating than I expected. My installer mounted the battery on a wall in the utility room, connected the battery management system, and paired it with my Growatt inverter. The app showed state of charge, solar generation, household consumption, and grid flow almost immediately.
Now the battery usually charges from solar between late morning and mid-afternoon. Around 4 p.m., it starts covering the house load, and it often carries us through cooking, laundry, and television until bedtime. Before storage, our evening electricity use was roughly 8 to 10 kWh. Since installing the home energy storage system, our grid imports during peak-rate hours have dropped dramatically. My bill is typically £35 to £50 lower per month, depending on weather and how much heating we use. That is more satisfying than seeing a big solar generation number because I can see the avoided peak charges.
I did have one minor hiccup. During a cold, cloudy week, the battery stopped discharging earlier than usual. The app showed a reserve setting I had accidentally left too high, so the system was protecting backup capacity instead of reducing the bill. Lowering that reserve fixed the issue in minutes, although I now leave a sensible emergency percentage untouched.
The battery has been quiet, predictable, and far less maintenance than I imagined. I still check the monitoring app every few days, but mostly I notice that the meter moves more slowly after sunset. For me, this LiFePO4 battery has made solar power genuinely useful beyond daylight hours.
