I installed a solar battery storage system last spring after watching my evening electricity bills climb. The main unit is a 10kWh lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery paired with my 6kW rooftop array. I changed the battery's schedule to charge from midday solar and discharge during those expensive hours. In the first month, my bill fell from about $186 to $112, despite weather and usage. The following month was $119. That $67-ish difference felt more convincing than any sales estimate.
The savings are not magic; the battery cannot cover every appliance indefinitely. My induction cooktop and heat pump still draw heavily, and the inverter sometimes pulls a little grid power during startup. Still, I routinely get through dinner without buying much peak electricity.
One troubleshooting moment happened in July. The app reported “communication lost” after a router firmware update. I power-cycled the Wi-Fi gateway and inverter, but the alert returned. The installer found the gateway had joined the guest network, which blocked access. Moving it back fixed the issue in minutes. Since then, I have kept the inverter on a reboot, and the monitoring has been stable.
