Solution Solar Inverter
Powering my home with stored solar energy has changed the way I think about electricity bills. I installed an spf 5000 growatt inverter with a 10 kWh lithium battery last summer, mainly because my utility charges much more during the evening peak.
The installation itself was less dramatic than I expected. My installer mounted the inverter in the garage, added a battery disconnect, and connected the rooftop solar panels and essential circuits in one afternoon. I did spend time afterward checking the monitoring app and learning which loads were backed up. The refrigerator, internet, lights, and garage door stay powered during an outage, but I deliberately left the electric water heater off the backup circuit to avoid draining the battery quickly.
The biggest improvement is my evening routine. Before the battery, solar production dropped around 4 p.m., and the house began buying expensive grid electricity just as dinner started. Now the battery charges from excess midday solar power and carries us through the peak window. On a typical sunny day, it supplies roughly 5 to 7 kWh after sunset. That has reduced my monthly bill by about $45 to $70, depending on weather and how much cooking and laundry we do.
One minor annoyance appeared in winter. After several cloudy days, the battery reached its reserve level earlier than expected, and the inverter switched to the grid overnight. I first thought something had failed, but the app showed normal operation: there simply was not enough solar generation. I raised the reserve setting slightly and stopped running the dishwasher late at night. Since then, the system has behaved predictably.
For me, the value is not total energy independence. It is using my solar battery when grid power costs most, while keeping essential loads comfortable and quiet.
