Solution Solar Battery
Fitting a solar battery into our home has changed the way we use electricity. We installed a 10kWh lithium iron phosphate unit (the listing called it an “lfp batterie”) beside our inverter last autumn. The installation was straightforward, but the electrician spent extra time checking cable sizing, ventilation, and the consumer panel. I appreciated that; I would rather have a careful setup than a rushed one.
The biggest difference appears between 4:00pm and 9:00pm, when our utility charges its peak rate. Before the battery, I regularly ran the dishwasher, heat pump, and kitchen appliances after work, and our evening bill climbed noticeably. Now the solar panels fill the battery through the afternoon, and the battery takes over after dinner. In the first month, our bill dropped from about $168 to $103. That is not a whole-home saving, but it is roughly $65 back each month, and the savings are clearest during hot weather when the heat pump works hardest.
I did have one scare. The app showed the battery at 2%, even though the panels had produced plenty that day. After checking, I found the backup reserve was set unusually high and the system had held energy for outage protection. I lowered the reserve to 20%, and the next cycle looked normal. I kept it at 25% afterward, since we have occasional winter outages.
What I like most is the quiet routine. I do not think about switching appliances around as much, and the battery management system handles charging automatically. We still pull from the grid on cloudy days, so I am not pretending we are energy independent. Still, the combination of solar self-consumption, peak shaving, and backup power has made the investment feel practical rather than flashy.
