I installed a siga solar comfort 280ah battery in my garage last spring, mainly because my evening electricity use was getting expensive. Before that, my rooftop solar system exported plenty of power during the afternoon, but I bought it back from the grid after dinner. The battery changed that routine without making my house feel like a science project. Setup was straightforward: my installer added a hybrid inverter, connected the battery to a wall-mounted disconnect, and programmed it to charge from solar first.
On sunny days, it usually reaches full by early afternoon. From about 4:30 p.m. onward, it supplies the refrigerator, lights, Wi-Fi equipment, and heat-pump water heater. I can see the difference in the monitoring app: before installation, my evening peak usage averaged roughly 8 kilowatt-hours. Now it is closer to 1.5. My utility bill has dropped by around $55 to $70 per month, depending on weather. That is more noticeable than the occasional small export credit I used to receive.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment during the first hot week. The battery stopped discharging at 9 p.m., even though the app showed plenty of stored energy. I checked the inverter and found it had entered backup reserve mode after a brief grid flicker. That setting was configured at 20 percent, but the app had interpreted the reserve incorrectly after a firmware update. I restarted the inverter, refreshed the battery settings, and it worked normally that night. I later lowered the reserve to 15 percent, which gives me a little more usable capacity while still keeping emergency backup for the freezer and modem.
What I appreciate most is the predictability. I am not chasing every solar forecast or manually switching appliances. The energy storage system simply charges when solar is abundant and covers expensive evening hours.
