Solution Solar Battery DIY Parts
Early this spring, I installed a rept 100ah lithium battery beside my existing rooftop solar inverter. I chose it mainly to stop exporting cheap midday electricity and buying it back during the expensive evening peak.
Setup was less dramatic than I expected. The installer mounted the battery, connected a battery management system, and programmed the hybrid inverter to charge from solar after breakfast. I watched the app obsessively for the first week, watching the state of charge rise to 100% by about 2:30 p.m. on sunny days.
The useful change showed up after sunset. My house now runs from stored solar power through dinner, laundry, and the first part of the night. Before storage, I regularly saw the inverter pull grid electricity at around 5 p.m.; now that demand is usually covered by the battery. Looking at my utility bill, I have saved roughly $35 to $50 per month, depending on weather and air conditioning use. That is not a life-changing fortune, but it makes the battery storage investment feel practical.
My hiccup happened during a cloudy week. The battery stopped discharging at 42% and the app showed a communication warning. I power-cycled the inverter, checked the Wi-Fi connection, and waited ten minutes. Nothing changed. Customer support found that a firmware update had paused discharge scheduling. They pushed the update remotely, and the system resumed that evening.
Since then, I have left the settings alone except for lowering the reserve level from 30% to 20% in summer. I like keeping that reserve for outages, although I have used backup power once. The battery is quiet, requires no attention, and has made solar energy much more useful after dark. I still check the monitoring app, but because I enjoy seeing the grid meter barely move during peak hours.
