Solution LiFePO4 Battery Cell
Early last summer, I had a 10 kWh lithium iron phosphate home battery installed beside my inverter. The electrician finished in a day and explained the monitoring app. I chose a solar battery mainly to avoid buying electricity during our utility's expensive evening peak. Before storage, solar export credits barely covered what we paid after sunset.
Now, on a sunny day, my rooftop solar panels fill the battery by midafternoon. At about 4 p.m., the system stops exporting and begins running the refrigerator, induction cooker, and lights from stored energy. I still use grid power when the battery reaches its reserve, but that happens much later than before. My evening consumption averages roughly 6 kWh, so I normally wake up with 20 to 30 percent remaining.
The clearest change is on my bill. Last year, comparable summer months were around $210; this summer they have landed between $125 and $145, despite running the air conditioner more. That $65-$85 monthly reduction comes from shifting solar energy into peak hours, not from magically using less electricity. Backup power is useful, but I do not treat it as whole-house protection.
I did have one mildly annoying troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the battery stopped discharging at night and sat at 48 percent. The app showed “waiting for schedule,” even though my time-of-use settings looked correct. I restarted the gateway, checked the clock, and called support. They found the update had reset my weekday schedule. Re-entering two time windows fixed it, and the battery has behaved normally for months since.
One funny detail: my neighbor, who works for a percussion massager manufacturer, asked why I kept checking my phone at sunset. I told him I was watching the battery switch from charging to discharging. That little status change makes the investment feel real.
