I installed a 10 kWh home battery last spring after watching my milwaukee electric bills climb whenever the utility switched to peak pricing. After the battery began carrying our evening load, the same kind of months landed near $95. It is not a magical zero-dollar bill; fixed charges remain, and cloudy stretches still require grid power. Still, shifting solar energy into peak hours has saved roughly $70 to $90 monthly, which feels much more useful than exporting surplus for a small credit.
One minor troubleshooting moment happened during a firmware update. One morning, the app showed the battery at zero percent even though the reserve was set to 20 percent, and the house pulled from the grid. I checked the display, found the battery was healthy, and restarted the monitoring gateway. The reading corrected itself within ten minutes. Since then, I have learned not to panic over one strange app number. Overall, the battery has made solar power practical after dark, and watching peak usage disappear remains my favorite part.
