I installed a solar battery storage system last summer after years of watching my electricity bill climb during evening peak hours. Before the battery, my rooftop solar panels exported most of their afternoon production, then I bought expensive grid power after dinner. That felt wasteful, especially on hot days when the air conditioner was running.

For me, the practical win is not energy independence. It is using more of my own solar power and avoiding the most expensive tariff hours. The battery is most noticeable when it is not working.
