Early last summer, I had a meritsun powerwall 2 mounted battery 2 installed beside our garage, mainly to stop buying so much electricity during the evening peak.
The setup was simple. An electrician mounted the home energy storage unit, connected it to the inverter, and walked me through the app. We chose a simple operating schedule: charge from excess solar in the afternoon, then discharge when rates climbed. The battery backup reserve is set at twenty percent, which gives me peace of mind without sacrificing capacity.
The biggest surprise has been peak hour bill savings. My evening consumption is ordinary stuff: cooking, running the dishwasher, and keeping the refrigerator cold. Still, the battery now handles most of that stretch. In the first full month, my bill dropped about twenty eight percent compared with a similar month last year, even though our solar production was not exceptional. That difference felt more convincing than any brochure claim.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. During a hot afternoon, the app showed “standby” while the house was drawing power. I checked the breaker and found it had tripped after a brief storm. Resetting it restored normal operation, and customer support later helped me adjust the storm sensitivity. Since then, the system has been quiet and automatic.
What I appreciate most is not the technology itself, but the change in routine. I no longer run laundry or charge devices just to avoid expensive hours. The solar inverter and lithium battery work in the background, while I use the stored energy when it makes financial sense. For a household already producing solar power, adding home battery storage has made our energy use feel noticeably more predictable. It will not erase every bill, but it makes evening peaks less painful and provides useful backup during outages.
